Hi All!
We are currently in the cutest little town in southern CA called Idyllwild. There is a little internet cafe here and we splurged and got ourselves some coffee. We are planning on leaving here tonight around 3pm when it gets cooler.
We had a very hard hike yesterday from camp to the Paradise Corner Cafe. We did 15 miles in the direct heat and it was scorching! Fortunately a nice musician gave us a ride into Idyllwild where we are resting muscles and healing blisters. We are getting pretty sick of the desert and are looking forward to the Sierras.
We've had two rattlesnake incidents so far...scary! The first one we just heard in the bushes, but the second one was actually on the trail. It heard us and immediately coiled up and started rattling. We scared it off and continued on, but it definitely has made us more aware.
Last night Luke scared off a raccoon at our campsite that was trying to steal some of our food. It wasn't very afraid so Luke had to bop it on the head and it scampered off. There is quite a bit of wildlife around here that is very different than we've ever experienced. Not a lot of big animals, but thousands of lizards and squirrels and mice running around.
We have more desert to go, so wish us luck and water! Thanks for all the support

so jealous... sounds like you guys are having a good time getting away from all that is American society. i told Chris about your raccoon experience and she let out a hearty laugh.
ReplyDeletewell, while you were gone, i wrote a fifteen page paper on how to change US-Iranian relations, Christina decided she wants to research meditation as a supplement to insomniacs, and the Falcon is leading a witch hunt against our student government... ugh, i wish we were done with this crap
anyhow, i'm glad you guys are finding opportunities to update your blog. its exciting to live vicariously through you. i really hope you guys make it to AK before we leave for egypt.

Hey Kiddoes, what a great adventure and way to start out in married life! Makes me wish that real life hadn't dropped in on us so fast; we'd be doing something like that too! Have a great time!
